KARABALİ HAMAMI

Project Type : Conservation
Employer: State

The registered bath structure is located in Kocaeli Province, Karamürsel District, 3 Maps, 95 Blocks, 7 parcels. The building is located on a corner parcel and a road passes through its south and east. Karabali Mehmet Bey Mosque is located in the west of the plot. There is no inscription indicating the date of construction, architect or founder of Karabali Bath. For this reason, it is not possible to date the building precisely. According to Semavi Eyice's bath typology; spatial organization of the bath complies with the plan type, which is in the form of Soğukluk (cold), Ilıklık (warm), Halvets (private spaces in hot section). In this plan type, the warm, hot and private spaces are covered with domes in equal dimensions and are connected to each other. Karabali Bath has a larger rectangular planned main mass, which includes the space Sıcaklık and the Water Tank that can be reached from the rectangular Soyunmalık space. There is a furnace attached to the east of the main mass. The east and south façades of the building face the road. The long side of the building is located in the north-south direction of the parcel. Due to the layout of the building, the parcel was divided into two. There are triangular gardens on the east of the building and nearly square gardens on the west. The Karabali Bath Restoration project includes the restoration of the bath mass, the consolidation of the ruins in the west, and landscaping. It is recommended to use the bath for cultural purposes. It is designed in such a way that entrance and exit can be made from the west garden to the bath structure. By descending the stairs from the west garden, the entrance to the dressing room on the west of the building is made. It has been proposed that the garden as an open event space, the Soyunmalık space as an open exhibition space. Seating units are designed from the garden. From the open exhibition area (Soyunmalık space), the entrance is made through a timber door. The Aralık space has also been determined as the exhibition hall. There is a transition from the exhibition hall (interval) to the WC, kitchen and exhibition space. The Sıcaklık space is designed as an exhibition space. The Halvets are intended to be used both as an exhibition space and as an office space. Since the furnace section is located at a lower level than the road level, the ladder that provides access to this section has been designed, the area is covered with grass.
