The historic water cistern is located on the road to Sarıcılar village in Kocaeli province, İzmit district, Kabaoğlu neighborhood, in the east-west direction. The cistern was registered with the decision of Kocaeli Conservation Board dated 22.03.2016 and numbered 2449. It is known that 19 aqueducts, which are still partially present today, were built during the Governorship of Pilinius (A.D. 111-113). It is highly probable that the cistern was a part of this system, and when examined in terms of materials and dimensions, it was built during the Byzantine period.
